How was Google started ? | Did you know ?

Google is something that every one uses several times a day. But only few wonder on how was this wonderful thing born. I am glad you are one among them.

Google Inc. is an American based MNC that currently invests in Internet search, cloud computing, and advertising technologies.

Google is not just any ordinary success-story, it’s the best of all you have heard. Well, lets take a dive into its magnificent past. Here we go…

In the year 1996, Larry Page and Sergey Brin started Google as a research project when they were pursuing PhD at Stanford University in California.

They began developing a search engine that analyzed the relationships between websites where a website’s relevance was determined by the number of pages, and the importance of those pages, that linked back to the original site.

They nick named their search engine BackRub because the system checked backlinks to estimate the importance of a site.

In the year 1997, Larry & Sergey decided to give a brand new name to BackRub and did some brainstorming only to come out with the name GOOGLE – a play on the word “googol,” a mathematical term for the number represented by the numeral 1 followed by 100 zeros (meaning – their mission to organize a seemingly infinite amount of information on the web).
This was how Google – The Colossus of web was born.

In the year 1998, with the help of funding from the Sun co-founder Andy Bechtolsheim, Google set-up its first workspace in a garage. Yes, you heard that right, in a garage at Menlo Park. And later it filed for incorporation in California.

With just 8 employees initially, Google started inducting many others as days past.

After many rounds of  funding from major venture capitalists, Google’s first public offering (IPO) took place on August 19, 2004 as the company offered 19,605,052 shares at a price of $85 per share.

Google then started Adwords, Adsense, Orkut, Gmail, Google Maps are the few of their numerous services offered. From there it was just success, success and success for Google.

With acquisition of  many companies,  thousands of employees and its unmatchable services, Google today rules the World Wide Web.
